The Paleolithic Diet is a healthy way of customizing our modern day diet; to reflect the dietary lifestyle of our ancestors in the Paleolithic era. Research has shown that the human genome has changed less than 0.02% over the last 40,000 years; making the Paleo Diet very effective, even in our modern times.
Based on the Ancient Diet of the cavemen, the Paleo Diet mainly consists of meat, fruit and vegetables. This of course means that you should avoid all processed foods, as well as most grains and dairy products. Lean meat is the basis of the Paleo diet; and you can also add organ meats such as tongue and liver. The only grey area is eggs; although cavemen did eat them, it was not very often. You should therefore try to limit your consumption of eggs to 5 or 6 per week. Nuts and seeds are a great source of healthy fats; which can help to lower your blood cholesterol, reduce the risk of heart disease and even reduce the risk of cancer. You should however try to limit your intake of nuts if you want to lose weight, because they do contain a lot of calories.
